The day of this family’s shoot, I woke up excited! I was very much looking forward to taking their portraits.
Then, I took one look outside and felt deflated. The sky was grey, and it was coolish outside. This isn’t a reason to cancel, but the wind was crazy. The element of unpredictable wind can make a fun photo shoot not fun at all for gals. Ladies don’t mind lightly tousled wind blown hair, but strong swirls are a game changer. Luckily, just an hour before heading out to their gorgeous acreage home, the sky lightened, and the wind died down. Weather condusive for playing tag, throwing leaves around, and generally goofing off. The perfect finishing touch to spending some quality time outside together, was that hot soup on the stove awaited them!
These kids are pure Joy!

If you had a sweet puppy like this little guy, come on… admit it! You would be rolling around in the grass with him too. Dogs have a way of getting into your heart, and wrapping you around their little paw! This session was arranged for this family as a “New Puppy” gift. What a special way for canine owners to always remember their dog as a darling cute puppy.

When this family hired me, they said they liked to get in their truck and go for a drive, sometimes not even knowing where the road would take them. I love this about them! It’s so fun to capture people doing what they love. We were so lucky to have this beautiful golden light. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t lavish praise for this gorgeous baby child. He is such a delightful gem!!!

My wonderful friend Stacy let me know that there were red dresses hung up in the trees all along Saskatchewan drive by the University of Alberta. She thought it would make an interesting photo opportunity. I was curious, so made my way over to photograph something out of the ordinary. As I imaged the dresses, I kept wondering why they were there. All different sizes and styles, but all of them red. I was really moved by the contrast and loneliness of the dresses hanging in the woods, in the cold.
Later I researched and found out that Jaime Black a Metis artist has created the art installation to bring attention to the fact that over 500 aboriginal and metis women have been murdered or have gone missing in Canada. Walking by each dress represents one of these women. The art installation will be at the University of Alberta until March 5th. Here is further information on the artist and how you can support the cause. The REDress Project

I love these images, because this family really forgot I was there and simply engaged with each other. Catching up, enjoying treats and lots of laughter. These images were taken at Leva a fantastic cafe in the Garneau area. Thanks Leva!
Thank-you for trusting me “W” family! Enjoy.
